WMT SERIES™ ENDS QUALIFYING SEASON AT MOHAWKSIN & BOOM

The World Muskie Tournament Series™ (WMT Series™) finished the 2013 regular season of muskie qualifiers with the Muskie Country Tournament Circuit™ (MCTC™) at Lake Mohawksin on Saturday, September 7 the Rhinelander Chain event on Sunday, September 8th. Early scouting reports from tournament anglers had predicted a tough bite from the majority of the muskie population but the big fish were very active and a realistic chance of winning the fifty inch pool money and the Hunter Trophy™ (the trophy for the biggest muskie of the year) was going to be a cinch. However, the resident muskies had a very different agenda by not accommodating the competitors in their visions of splendor refusing to abide the angler's offerings, teasing to the point of frustration allowing only two muskie over 34 inches to be scored for both tournament over the weekend.

The first tournament of the weekend was the Muskie Country™ Lake Mohawksin qualifier on Saturday that started with its later September ease out time at 6:30am that produced the first muskie at 8:07am with a 37.50 incher by the Abendroth brothers, Kevin and Scott. At 9:15am, the second and final muskie of the day would be tallied by Don Groskopf and Dan Winkler that measured 35.75 inches. Even though the muskie scoring would be finished for the day, the muskie activity would be better than expected as all teams would have quality chances at muskie over 34 inches and numerous muskies over thirty inches but under the magical 34 inches would be captured by the competitors before the conclusion of the tournament. Even more frustrating for the competitors for the day was the fact that the big girls that had showed up during pre-fishing were still there chasing baits but unwilling to commit to devour a muskie bait and be registered for the day.

The Muskie Country™ Lake Mohawksin top two finishers were:
1st - Kevin & Scott Abendroth
2nd - Don Groskopf/Dan Winkler

The attitudes of the competitors for the Sunday Rhinelander Chain Muskie Country™ were running high when the forecast for a change in the weather was eminent, however the severe 20 degree drop in air temperatures would prove to be a little more than the muskies were able to deal with resulting in every competing team "scoring out" with no muskies measuring 34 inches or better. First and second places would be determined by a drawing that witnessed the team of Clay Heller and Ben Peterson claiming the first place honors and Rod and Dean Rodiczak owning a second place birth.
